A Letter on Mother's Day

I know how hard today can be. It is a day that reminds you of what you long for but do not have. It's a day that makes you feel invisible and not important.  It's a day you might be expected to show up with a smile and celebrate, but all you want to do is hide under the covers. It's a day you dread all year. And yet, even in the sadness, I believe we can flourish by showing love to one another.

While the world may celebrate mothers in a traditional sense today, I think today is the perfect time to celebrate every woman. Whether you are a woman with a baby in your arms, a woman with a baby in heaven, a woman with a baby waiting to be placed with you, or a woman who doesn't yet know when or how or even if she wants motherhood to happen for her - know that you are loved, and you are important today and every day.

You see, women are incredible. We have a strength that is unrivaled coupled with a capacity to love more deeply than words can describe. And goodness, the world needs more of this. Whether you have the title of mother or you are still longing for it- you have the ability to impact others in a profound way simply by being you.

So, tell another woman she is important today. Tell her she is loved. Tell her she makes the world a better place just by being her. And if you know someone might need a little extra love or encouragement today, reach out to her specifically. Tell her you know today is hard and you are thinking of her. Today might not be easy, but I can promise that by lifting one another up it will be easier.
