You know that feeling you get when you first start an oral
presentation or pitch - or have to speak up in a situation where you are a
little nervous about what you have to share - or do something new in a public
way? It’s a somewhat out of body experience. You’re a little breathless, you
break a nervous sweat, and your mind is going a million miles a minute. If
you’re like me, you’re also excited and (mostly) prepared – you just have to do
it. That’s how I feel about sharing our story.
So bear with me through this post. Once I get going, I
promise I’ll take some deep breaths and find a rhythm. In the meantime – here
we are – starting a blog about infertility, family, and flourishing in fertility.
I’ll be sharing more of our fertility story in the coming
weeks, but for now, a few of the basics:
·
My husband Josh and I grew up in the same town,
started dating long-distance in college, and will have been married 12 years
this fall.
·
We have one precious, opinionated, book-loving
little boy who just turned three.
·
Our son is the result of many doctor’s
appointments, lots of needles, and a mix of modern medicine and (by my
estimation) an overwhelming amount of the miraculous.
·
We have an incredible team of doctors, nurses,
counselors, and others who have guided us on this journey. More recently, we’ve
expanded the team to include our family and friends – watch for more about the
timing of that in a future post.
·
In the coming weeks, we will continue in our
journey to build our family through the help of a gestational carrier.
While I don’t know what our family will look like in the
next year (but really who does?!), I do know that we have learned so much
through this process that we feel compelled to share. We hope that our
experiences might be helpful, provide some encouragement, or just be of
interest to curious minds.
Whether you plan to follow our journey regularly, just pop
in for an occasional update, or never come back – we are thankful for you.
You’ve been part of helping us find the courage to share our story and build a
resource that might help someone else. Thanks for joining us.
